Hope Blooms is a community social enterprise run out of the Halifax North end. They take care of community garden plots and a greenhouse, they provide food and cooking workshops for their community and as an entrepreneurial initiative, they produce and sell their own Fresh Herb Salad Dressings.
This is a fantastic and inspiring organization where youth learn how to grow their own healthy food, produce and successfully market value-added products, grow a small social enterprise from the ground up, and give back to their community. One of the many things that have impressed me is how they take great care to have the program lead and directed by the community youth themselves.
And exciting news: tomorrow (November 13th) they will be appearing on CBC’s Dragons’ Den with a Pitch for their Fresh Herb Salad Dressing Youth Social Enterprise!
Over last summer, we’ve had a great time working with the youth, volunteers and leaders on developing a website to promote the programs and the sales of their Fresh Herb Salad Dressings. This is a project I was brought in to work on by Youth Art Connection — a local not-for-profit working with youth, professional artists and community to make positive change. I’m very happy to be involved in such a positive and successful project.
